Final "Tuesday's with Morrie" test is on Friday, May 2nd.
Any/all "Morrie" writings/classwork is due Wednesday, May 7th.
Also...another requirement for this English 12 class is to write thank-you letters to teachers who have helped you along the way, to be delivered on or around May 6th (Teacher Appreciation Day). The one-page letters can be written to any current or former teacher; even retired/former teachers who have moved on are eligible, provided they can be tracked down. You will be responsible for TWO such letters (English 12 class students will write three).
Guidelines:
1. One page in length
2. Identify what you learned from the teacher and how you learned it
3. How that lesson/skill has helped you or will help you in the future
4. Any specific "thanks" or "memories" from the teacher's class/about/with the teacher (field trips, class trips, athletics, clubs, etc.)
5. Letters MAY NOT be written to Mr. Fielder

2/4: Assignments to be completed throughout the week.
1. Night pre-test by the end of class TUESDAY.
2. Please share your progress on research via e-mail or Google documents by the end of the class period WEDNESDAY. Please share: 1. Any progress/completed summaries (for my review); 2. Any citations in APA format; 3. AT LEAST FIVE QUESTIONS YOU HAVE REGARDING ANY ASPECT OF YOUR RESEARCH!!! This will help me assist you in the research process.
3. Deadline for three article summaries is FRIDAY. Check e-mail for documents to help with formatting.
4. You should have read through page 12 of Night (including the Preface). You'll complete selected questions through page 12 by MONDAY, February 10th.
5. Keep on those scholarships! Make sure you submit your requests for reference letters as soon as possible. The deadline for letter of recommendations for those is March 1st; I know teachers will need plenty of time to complete them!
6. Feel free to share any scholarship writings that YOU are required to complete so I can help assist in proofing/editing thereof (if you choose). These essays are extremely important; they are like cover letters and resumes. Basically, large decisions are made based on these writing samples!
Let me know how I can be of further assistance.

Use today's class to work on your research paper; but, since you are a bit ahead of schedule you may also work on anything scholarship-related. Feel free to send me drafts of any writings you have to do so I can proof them before you submit them. It also might be a good idea to set up some sort of document that organizes all of the scholarships you are applying for.
Please submit anything you worked on as "proof of production."

12-17 through 12-20 schedule: (Giving this to you so you can prioritize your time for second hour this week).
12/17 (Tuesday) - Senior "come back" - seniors from last year will be in the auditorium. Your choice whether you want to go...if not, you'll want to be through page 93 by tomorrow. Make sure you can identify the three "things" that are missing from society, according to Faber. Decide which of the three is missing from OUR society.
12/18 (Wednesday) - Poetry Explication of "Dover Beach" (To explicate is to give a detailed explanation/to analyze logically. That's why it is a vital skill to work on with poetry because meaning must be derived be constructed by the reader of the poem).
THERE IS A SLIDE WITH THE LOCATION OF DOVER BEACH, AND A LINK TO THE POEM BEING READ, ALONG WITH VISUALS OF THE LOCATION. I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU LISTEN TO IT BEING READ FOR YOUR INITIAL READING. reading pages 93-101.
Classwork writing prompts:
1. EXPLAIN the varied reactions to Montag's reading of "Dover Beach" on pages 100-101.
2. Why did Bradbury choose to have Montag read this particular poem at this point in the novel?
12/19 (Thursday) - Use this as a "work day" for your charts. If you're ready to take the section two quiz, you can take it on this day.
12/20 (Friday) - Simply quizzing on section two. There will be a "white elephant" gift exchange during my fifth hour English 12 class that day, and apparently some sort of "festivities." You are more than welcome to join us.
I'd suggest using some class time this week to research/fill out scholarships at schools you are interested in attending. You may even look at the University of Minnesota scholarships to see if there is anything you can have prepared; that way when you are accepted all you'll need to do is submit the information. I also think it is within your best interest to type up a "resume" that lists your GPA, ACT, classes, academic awards, extra-curricular activities, etc., so teachers writing letters for you will have the relevant information.
As always, I'm flexible with this schedule. Just communicate to me what you'll be working on at the beginning of each particular class.
